There are things that don’t resolve. They settle into memory, into the body, into the way we hear silence. And for some, they find their way into the work.
I have noticed this in my own music. Certain sounds carry something I cannot fully name. When I trace it back, I often find something unresolved at its source. Not performed pain. Not borrowed emotion. Something that was simply there – and needed a form.
The wound is not the work. But it can become the material.
There is a difference between expressing pain and transforming it. Expression alone can repeat. Transformation asks the artist to stay with what is difficult long enough for it to change shape – until it becomes something that can be shared.
This is not therapy. It is not confession.
It is translation.
The deepest music often comes from that place.
